The Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse is located south of Daytona Beach at the tip of the peninsula. This national landmark was originally known as the Mosquito Inlet Lighthouse (the Inlet was originally named the Mosquito Inlet because of the large number of bugs upon its discovery in 1569), but in 1927 it was renamed the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse. Visitors are welcome to tour the lighthouse and the grounds.
